Why Internet of Things is important?

The promise of the Internet of Things (IoT) brings many new application scenarios, it also presents significant challenges on topics ranging from hardware architectural choices to cloud technologies, from sensing and networking solutions to big data analytics.

What you will learn?

This course offers important insights on how to overcome these challenges and thrive in this exciting new tech trend. We will explore the convergence of multiple disciplines leading to today's IoT– wherein millions and billions of devices communicating with each other and “the cloud”. We will discuss the impact of IoT, smartphones and cloud apps on everyday lives. We will then look at how to design this emerging platform via multiple standards from various vendors – could enable unprecedented, innovative applications and services for the Smart City. This course provides a core grounding in how state-of-the-art technologies have developed to enable the IoT – in a way appropriate for any learner. You will develop hands-on expertise in designing and developing for the IoT through technology evaluation, sample projects, programming, and presentation.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: •Discover key IoT concepts including hardware systems, sensors, computing, localization, wireless protocols, data storage, and security;
•Analyze the data created by connected devices through collecting and processing;
•Develop and implement your own IoT systems to tackle application challenges of their choice.

What will students take home?

The best part of all? They'll get to a hands-on IoT project experience by working with a group. Students will design and implement a specific IoT system/component, bring it to their home.
